Bear, Otter, and the Kid (Bear, Otter, and the Kid #1) - T.J. Klune I liked it I really did, but there were times I felt bad for Bear. I'm not one for being pushed, and at times it felt to me (that would be the person writing this, and no one else) that the manipulation, and guilt trips go a little too far. He was raised by unstable parents, and has abandonment issues; it really shouldn't come as a surprise that he acts the way he does sometimes, and it seems like some of the characters don't respect that at times. The Kid is smart, and interesting, but it seems to me (yes the person right here) he has been given a little too much power in Bear and Otter's relationship. Just because he is a child genius doesn't mean he has the emotional maturity, or intelligence to fully understand what it takes to make a real, adult relationship work. He sees things as very black and white (his social views are the same way), and he has yet to learn that nothing is ever that simple especially when it comes to illogical things like feelings. These issues I had don't mean that I didn't enjoy reading this book, and wouldn't recommend it to others, they were just the impressions I got when I was reading. I'm not trying to sound defensive, I'm just sort of sick of seeing people get trashed when they honestly express what they felt about a book.
